L'associazione: Roman Historical Group
Il Roman Historical Group is a Cultural Association, apolitical, non-profit organization founded in 1994 by the passion that the current President Sergio Iacomoni has, commonly known as “Nero”, nourishes for ancient Rome. They, together with a group of friends, all sharing the same interest, he decided to start this adventure and chose a symbolic date as the day of its institution: il 21 April, day of the foundation of the Eternal City.
After a quarter of a century of activity, the growth of the Association has been remarkable. Born like this, almost for fun, from a previous association called “Let's have fun”, today the Roman Historical Group stands out in the world of historical re-enactment of ancient Rome and is unanimously recognized as one of the leading groups in Italy and in the world. The aims that the historical re-enactment association sets itself are to propose, organize and support, in a well-founded and credible way, events, demonstrations, rites, personages, and crafts relating to the world of ancient Rome.
The Historical Re-enactment of the Roman Historical Group involves a preliminary study phase, research, in-depth analysis, practical experimentation and/or learning. The fundamental methodology for the study phase is the correct reading and interpretation of the testimonies relating to the historical phenomenon for which the initiative is intended to be set up: a) primary sources of all types (archival, environmental, iconographic, ecc.) b) indirect sources (general history texts, local history books and research, ecc.).
The Historic Group's pre-eminent activity is directed towards the "Reconstructive Event", which limits the time/thematic span of its action as much as possible in favor of maximum fidelity in the creation and use of clothes, equipment, music, dishes, accessories, settings that recall as much as possible the original finds to which they refer. They are identified within the Reconstructive Event: – the “Living History” (or Living History); that is, the rediscovery of the past in all its expressions (civil, technological, scientific, artistic or military) and in its greatest sense; – il “Re-enactment”; the reconstruction of a specific historical event, be it military, civil, religious, of which the facts and development are staged in the same place and with the same methods.
In this context, the Gruppo Storico Romano has undertaken a path that fits perfectly into this dynamic, also for his ability to communicate to all age groups: the “theatrical newsstands” in archaeological sites.
The “Theatrical Newsstands” represent a novelty in the panorama of historical re-enactment. They allow, in a dedicated path, to tell the history of the archaeological site through the people who lived there or with the well-known people who influenced the historical events of the area and of that historical period.
With a history that spans over three decades of activity, the Gruppo Storico Romano has solid roots in the heart of Rome and has gained international influence in the field of Historical Reenactment. Our mission is simple, but profound: keep, pass on and share the cultural and historical heritage of the Roman Empire with the world.
